Jim Jeffries has been the police chief in LaFollette, Tennessee for almost 20 years. During his tenure as police chief, he has made his fair share of marijuana busts from vehicles passing through his town.According to the Bend Bulletin, a new smuggling trick is causing Jeffries to rethink his methods entirely: edible marijuana hidden in plain sight.
Jeffries never expected that a lollipop or a cookie could contain drugs, but treats infused with THC, the active ingredient in pot, are becoming more and more common.
LaFollette police recently pulled over a Chevy Blazer driven by a couple with three children in the back. Upon searching the SUV, officers found over 24 pounds of cookies and candies infused with THC, as well as a large tub of marijuana butter. Jeffries says that this is the first time his department has ever seen butter or candies containing marijuana, and he hopes it will be the last.
